Job Title – Information Assistant
Purpose of Job
The library’s work study program will provide students the opportunity to help carry out the library’s mission. The mission of the Carroll library is to serve students by providing access to information, by maintain an environment that promotes a culture of academic excellence, and by offering instruction that fosters scholarship, integrity, independent intellectual growth, and the sophisticated information skills necessary for life-long learning.
Provide continuous coverage in the Information Commons and Library Classroom areas. Respond promptly, politely and knowledgeably to patron questions. Prepare classroom for classes, check out laptops and equipment to students. Maintain areas insuring that the printers and copiers are full of paper and properly working. Also maintain the supplies and enforce library policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintaining regular communication with supervisor
Understanding basic operation of MFDs, scanner, and printers in order to provide instruction and troubleshooting when needed
Understanding basic operation of popular software programs in order to provide instruction and troubleshooting when needed
Fielding patron questions and providing superior customer service
Ensuring MFDs/printers have paper and replenishing supplies regularly
Keeping physical space neat and organized (including computers)
Making referrals to librarians and other campus services as necessary
Completing necessary paperwork (timesheets, etc.)
Keeping track of schedules (your own, classroom, etc.) and using listserv properly to trade if needed
Taking part in evaluations once a semester
Attending meetings and trainings as directed
Preparing for classes in Classroom and/or Information Commons
Opening and closing the Classroom and Information Commons when needed
Enforcing library policies (food and drink, noise, etc.)
Understanding Library of Congress classification and advising patrons on locations of materials in the library
Taking an active role in mastery of job skills
Role modeling positive academic behavior while on duty
Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Must be dependable, courteous and be able to follow directions
Must be able to sit for long periods of time
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Must be comfortable with technology
